NB Elections Underway MONDAY - TellTheFacts.ca

Updated: Oct 18

This election season in New Brunswick, it is important to realize that environmental issues are intrinsically intertwined with all the other issues whether they are related to health, the economy, justice or education. Because of this it is important that we make the right choices when it comes time to vote on October 21, 2024.

New Climate Misinformation Portal: The Conservation Council team has launched a new online tool, Tell the Facts, to combat climate misinformation. Anyone can submit potential misinformation, and they'll fact-check and share the results. We're initially focusing on the New Brunswick elections but plan to expand to federal elections soon. Your input and contributions are welcome!

We all know that during election periods it can sometimes be difficult to differentiate real information from fake information especially when it comes to environmental issues. This is where the Conservation Council of New Brunswick comes in: (https://www.conservationcouncil.ca/voting-for-climate-action-in-nb-2024/).

CCNB has put together a list of resources to help you make the right decisions when you vote. Some of the resources that the list includes are how to find your riding, how to find your polling station, information on how the government works, how to spot misinformation, how the different parties position themselves on different environmental issues, and more.

Here are some links to important resources that can help you make a clear choice on election day:

Questions to ask door-knockers (https://www.conservationcouncil.ca/nb-election-questions-2024/): CCNB has crafted 10 key environmental questions for you to ask your MLA candidates. These aren’t just questions about nature. They’re about how your future MLA plans to tackle the rising cost of living, protect your health and build a better, more sustainable future for all of us.

Provincial Civics 101 (https://www.conservationcouncil.ca/provincial-civics-101/): Looks at the fundamentals of how your provincial government functions, why your voice matters in the voting process, and how grassroots activism can influence policies, especially on critical issues like the environment.

Tell the Facts – a hub to battle misinformation (https://tellthefacts.ca/): Here you can learn about what is environmental misinformation, get information fact checking claims you hear during the election period and report misinformation that you come across that CCNB will fact check.

In conclusion, make your voice heard: vote for a sustainable future in New Brunswick! We all have a role to play in this together.
