September 2023
In the heart of Atlantic Canada's vibrant communities, a collective vision was born - a vision to combat climate challenges and champion sustainable practices that would safeguard our region's future. The inception of the Atlantic Canada Climate Network (ACCN) marked the commencement of an inspiring journey towards fostering climate resilience, collaboration, and positive impact.
A Humble Beginning
The seeds of ACCN were sown by passionate individuals and organizations committed to tackling climate change head-on. Driven by the urgency of the issue, these pioneers recognized the strength in unity and the potential of pooling their diverse expertise and resources to effect lasting change. With the realization that our shared environment knows no borders, ACCN emerged as a dynamic platform that brings together communities, stakeholders, and visionaries from across Atlantic Canada.
Launched in early 2022 as a joint initiative from Climate Reality Project Canada and The OATHE Network/Earth.Net, the network has grown to meet the needs of those working in the climate action and social justice space in Atlantic Canada.
Our Impact Goals
At the core of ACCN's mission lies a commitment to amplifying our impact through meaningful collaboration and innovative solutions. Our goals are a testament to our dedication to creating a sustainable, climate-resilient future:
1. Fostering Collaborative Solutions:
ACCN aspires to bridge the gap between diverse stakeholders, nurturing an environment where ideas are exchanged, partnerships are formed, and collaborative initiatives flourish. By facilitating open dialogues and shared learning, we seek to foster a spirit of collaboration that transcends organizational boundaries and geographical borders.
2. Empowering Climate Educators:
Education is a cornerstone of sustainable change. ACCN is dedicated to empowering climate educators with the tools they need to inspire action within their communities. Our workshops aim to introduce systems perspectives, mutual aid principles, and community-building strategies that can catalyze effective climate conversations and drive informed decision-making.
3. Building Resilient Communities:
Communities lie at the heart of our efforts. ACCN envisions vibrant, climate-resilient communities that are united by a shared commitment to environmental sustainability. Through initiatives like the Fredericton Community Climate Hub, we aim to harness local knowledge and empower citizens to actively participate in local climate action and resilience efforts.
4. Amplifying Voices of Change:
The Atlantic Canada region is a hub of climate champions, innovators, and advocates. ACCN strives to amplify their voices through platforms like podcasts, blogs, and the Casual Conversations series. By sharing their stories and insights, we aim to inspire a wider audience and galvanize greater participation in climate initiatives.
5. Nurturing Ecocentric Worldviews:
Our ultimate goal is to foster ecocentric worldviews that recognize the interconnectedness of all living beings and ecosystems. ACCN believes that by embracing this perspective, we can cultivate a deep-rooted commitment to protecting and preserving our environment for generations to come.
As we embark on this collective journey, we invite all those who share our vision to join hands with us. The Atlantic Canada Climate Network is not just an organization; it's a movement that unites individuals, communities, and organizations under the banner of climate resilience. Together, we have the power to shape a future that is sustainable, equitable, and vibrant.
